Midtern Portfolio (paragraph)
The English 045 class I am taking this semester helped me to improve my writing on how to create a paragraph. I´ve learned rules and steps to follow to write a paragraph. Before I´ve took English 045 I was very insecure about writing. Firstable because English is not my first language and secondable I was going back to school after more then ten years. This class gave a great help on how to write a paragraph. My first paragraph was just a bunch of sentence that were not connected on a main idea as in http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=3161225152482525209#editor/target=post;postID=5464683614312822014. Now I´ve learned that before writing I need to brainstorm all my ideas and they need to be connected on a same subject as inhttp://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=3161225152482525209#editor/target=post;postID=3869491371035240252. Also I´ve learned how to write a journal. When I was asked to write a journal about Evergreen from pages 2-18 http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=3161225152482525209#editor/target=post;postID=30331755718038760 I did a summary instead.I had corrected on http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=3161225152482525209#editor/target=post;postID=30331755718038760. I´ve learned that a journal is a way to practice our writing, it´s private and give us a little freedom on the style and technique we decide to use. Another example of my improvement is the essay about Restaurants. It took me a lot of time and thinking, over and over checking all my ideas, organizing all the information that I would use. After revising I noticed that on the body of the essay I've written no much about the services of the restaurants had to offer to their costumers since that was the category I've chosen.http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=3161225152482525209#editor/target=post;postID=8578936745932992602 . As we were tough on the first day of class writing take time and a lot of thinking organizing ideas and overall practice.

Paragraph to Essay

Port
Chester Village of Restaurants
Port
Chester is located in New York’s Westchester County, which is an hour drive
North from New York City. It is known as the “Restaurant Capital of
Westchester.” Most of the restaurants are located on a strip of the downtown
area. Residents and visitors enjoy a wide selection of dining options such as
informal, casual, and formal restaurants.
You
can find the informal restaurants like Pat’s Hubba Hubba, which is known for
their chilly and hot dogs as well as their steak sandwiches, it is also open
twenty-four hours, every day of the week, the restaurant is a tiny hallway with
a bar style seating that crosses from one entry to the other. The decoration is
a unique wallpaper that is covered with one dollar bills that were left as tips
at one point. This restaurant is well known by college students for its
affordable prices. Another restaurant similar at Pat’s Hubba Hubba is Misti’s
Restaurant. They are well known for their Peruvian cuisine. Some of their specialty
dishes are Pollo a la Brasa, which is a roasted chicken marinated the Peruvian
style, and the Lomo Saltado, which is a steak cut in fine strips cooked with
onions and tomatoes and served with white rice. There is no reservation
requirement to dine in this restaurant, making it a favorite place to eat for families.
Next door is Q Restaurant, an authentic barbecue place, where you can order
slow cooked ribs, chicken, or pork, all served with a special sauce made on site.
All meals will include corn bread and two side dishes. They also have a variety
of desserts such as home-made pie and banana pudding, which are given free to
children on certain days.
If you prefer to have better quality of food
and service but still in a casual environment, you should try Edo Japanese
Steak House. The chef will cook at your table where multiple parties share the
seating. First, you will be served an appetizer of soup and salad. Second, the
dish that you previously ordered will be cook in front of you. The dishes you
can choose from are fillet mignon, chicken or shrimp. Finally, you will be
given Fried Green Tea Ice Cream, which is a scoop of ice cream that the chef
lights on fire. On special occasions,
such as birthdays, the staff will sing a song in Japanese to celebrate it. It
is usually a loud place where people enjoy watching the show. A few blocks
north is The Coyote Flaco, which is one of the seven Mexican Restaurants of
this chain in New York. It has a menu of dishes including Tamales, Quesadilla,
and Nacho Deluxe. Coyote Flaco serves three different kinds of Enchiladas and
offers a selection of Fajitas that could be prepared with steak, shrimps,
chicken, vegetables, or salmon. The dishes are served with Combos with rice,
beans, guacamole, and meats of your choice. The Restaurant has an outdoor
seating area that gets really crowded. Another casual place to enjoy good food
and service is Copacabana Churrascaria a Brazilian Steak House, that serves
fourteen kinds of meat cuts that are slow roasted and perfectly seasoned. The
meat cuts include beef, pork, lamb, chicken, and Brazilian sausage, which are
presented on skewers and carved at your table at your request. They also have a
big salad and dessert buffet.
On the other hand, you have the option of a
formal diner like Pasquale, a fine upscale Italian cuisine. The menu offers
homemade dishes such as Parppadelle, Lasagna, Agnolotti, many desserts, and a
list of wines. Pasquale also provides valet parking for their costumers and
advanced reservation is recommended. Another fine restaurant is the recent
renovated Tarry Lodge, located in a historical one-hundred year-old building with
comfortable atmosphere and exceptional Italian modern cuisine. They serve light
meals such as Vittello Tonnato and Quartino of Chianti. Also, on their main
dish menu, they have Osso Buco or Lamb Chops. Tarry Lodge has private dining
staff to assist you to have an intimate dinning if some privacy is need it.
Another excellent formal restaurant is The Willet House, which is a traditional
American steak house serving a plenty variety of cuts and meats accompanied by
house salads and vegetables prepared on premises. The Willet House has a long
list of exquisite wines to choose from. Good attire is also required.
Finally,
your visit to Port Chester will be worth it. There is a variety of restaurants
to choose from, if you are looking for a restaurant to just grab a quick meal
and not expend much money, definitely will be an informal restaurant there. To share
with friends and family where you can be loud and bring your children to have
fun and entertainment you have the casual restaurants. When you need some
privacy for a business dinner or to share with that special person you will
find the formal restaurants with all their extra services to make your visit
unforgettable. From the ones that you help yourself to the ones you will be
served, depending on the occasion you have. In other words, it doesn’t matter
what you are craving or celebrating Port Chester will definitely have the restaurant
you are looking for.

Chapter 2 has techniques to use on the pre-writing like writing, brainstorming, clustering or mapping, asking questions and keeping a journal.
These two chapters were very helpful. I´ve learned the very basic on how to write a paragraph.

Front Door week 4
Front Door
Every day when I open my front door to go to work the first thing that I see is my neighbors two story white house across the street. Next to it is a gigantic old pine tree and the electric pole. The family car is park in the front of their house. To the right is the rest of my neighbors homes and cars parked on their driveways. Farther out I can see Park Avenue, which is a very busy street with a bus stop on the corner where people stand beside it. To the left of my front door I can see more of my neighbors homes. The house that is next to mine has a big front yard where used to be four big trees that before the last hurricane, which knocked them over.

Paragraph from page 43
Give advise to busy working parents
To have a good and stress free week we need to plan and organized ahead. First we should purchase a big calendar where we can see each member of the family's activities and appointment for the month if we prefer we can assign a different ink color to every member for easy finding. That way we won't double schedule anything and we'll avoid trying to be in two places at the same time or running late because there wasn't enough time between them. Also is a good idea to set up a time to call and make all the routine medical appointments for the whole family like dental cleaning, yearly physical check ups, vaccinations, optometrist etc. at one time if possible even the pets and write down all on the calendar. Depending on the use that we give to our vehicles it is important to program though the year the services that may need like oil change, check on tires pressure, batteries etc. and make a note on the respective month on the calendar to remind us. Second it is good to create a weekly or even better monthly menu for the family for breakfast, lunch to take to school or work and diner so we can see all the ingredients that every recipe will need for each meal that way will have a comprehensive shopping list. We should make two separate shopping lists. The first one will be made weekly with all the perishable food that we want to have fresh like diaries, fruits, vegetables, species, bread, cold cuts, meats etc. The second one should be for the month with the no perishable foods like pasta, snacks, canned food, drinks, and also the cleaning supplies and items that can be storage like towel paper, toilet paper, shampoo, plastics bags etc. The shopping lists should be stick on the calendar, pantry door, refrigerator or any visible place accessible to all the older family members to write down what we'll need to buy in our next trip to the super market. Trying to following this tips will help us oversee the week and month ahead of us to not to overthinking over and over everyday on the same daily issues.
